When to Say No to a Client's First Idea
Brand Identity
•

Founders usually arrive with a specific ask — a new logo, a new color, a new tagline. Taking that request at face value is the fastest way to deliver something they'll quietly dislike in six months.

Most first ideas are really a proxy for a feeling the founder can't quite name yet — 'more premium,' 'less corporate,' 'finally us.' Our job in Discover isn't to execute the literal ask, it's to find the feeling underneath it and check whether the ask even gets them there.
Saying no to the first idea isn't disagreement for its own sake. It's the only way to make sure you're solving the actual problem instead of just the one that was easiest to describe.
